You've been thinking about it for a while. Maybe you saw someone else's images and felt something pull at you. Maybe you've been carrying the idea quietly for months, not quite ready to say it out loud. Whatever brought you here, I want you to know exactly what happens when you book a women's portrait session in Raglan with Nami Creative. No guessing. No surprises.
The drive in
Most women arrive having driven from somewhere else. Auckland. Hamilton. Waikato. The drive itself is part of it — the way the landscape shifts as you leave the motorway and head toward the west coast. By the time you turn into Raglan, something has already started to loosen. The sea appears. The black sand. The wide open sky. You exhale before we even meet.
This is women's portrait photography in Raglan — and the setting does half the work before the camera comes out.
Before the shoot
Once you book, we have a prep chat either via email or on Whatsapp. It's not a formal thing — just a conversation where I learn about you, what you're hoping to feel in your images, and what you're worried about. (Everyone is worried about something. Usually posing, what to wearor their body, or not knowing what to do. All of that is my job, not yours.)
You'll receive a style guide that helps you choose outfits for the Raglan landscape. What photographs beautifully outdoors, what the coastal light does to different colours, what to bring. By the time shoot day arrives, you're as prepared as you need to be.
On location in Raglan
We shoot entirely outdoors. The black sand beach. The bush tracks just outside of Raglan. The golden hills when the light turns in the afternoon. Where we shoot depends on the season, the time of day, and what the light is doing — I read all of that before you arrive.
There's no backdrop. No controlled environment. Just the real landscape of Raglan, and you in it.
Guided posing — you don't need to know anything
This is the thing women are most nervous about, and I want to say it clearly: you do not need to know how to pose. You don't need experience in front of a camera. You don't need to feel confident.
I guide every single moment. Where to put your hands. How to turn your body. When to move and when to be still. My job is to see you clearly and show you how to exist in front of the camera in a way that looks and feels like you — not a performance, not a magazine shoot. Just you, in the landscape, held well.
Around fifteen minutes into every session, something shifts. I've seen it hundreds of times. The woman stops trying to look right and just starts being there. That's the moment I'm always working toward.
The reveal
After your session, you'll see your images. This is the part women describe most when they tell other people about the experience. The surprise of seeing yourself — really seeing yourself — in a way you haven't for a long time. Not performing. Not forcing a smile. Just present, in the wild landscape of Raglan, looking like yourself.
Some women cry. Some go very quiet. Most say some version of: I didn't know I could look like that.... (makes me always cry thinking about this moment)
A few practical things
Sessions run between one and three hours depending on your package. I recommend arriving without rushing — give yourself the drive, the arrival, the exhale.
If the weather in Raglan isn't cooperating, we reschedule. West coast weather is what it is, and it's always worth waiting for the right light.
You don't need to bring anything except yourself and your outfits. I take care of the rest.
If you've been sitting with this idea — wondering if now is the right time, whether you're the right person for something like this — the answer is usually yes.
