Yes, professional photographers book maternity photographers too. When Charlotte, a photographer from Rotorua, travelled to Raglan for her maternity session with me, I felt honoured, and I'll be honest, I felt the pressure too.

Why would a photographer book a maternity photographer?

Photographers are almost always behind the camera. We photograph other people's biggest moments, and our own often go undocumented. Pregnancy is a season that passes quickly, and most photographers know exactly how much these photos will mean later.

It also takes trust. Being photographed by someone who understands light, posing and direction means you can relax and be fully in the moment, instead of thinking like a photographer.

Why travel from Rotorua to Raglan?

Raglan is just under 2 hours from Rotorua. Women from Hamilton, Auckland and Rotorua regularly make the drive for the black sand beaches, golden hour light and a private, unhurried setting. If you're wondering whether it's worth the trip, read my full guide: Maternity Photographer Near Raglan, Hamilton & Auckland.

The pressure of photographing another photographer

I always feel it. Another professional notices the light, the posing and the details, and she knows exactly what good looks like. But it's also the best reminder of why I guide every session the way I do: when someone feels safe and looked after, the photos follow.

So how did Charlotte's photos turn out?

You be the judge ;)

Charlotte was 35 to 36 weeks pregnant, right in the sweet spot for maternity photos. When she saw her gallery, she emailed me straight away: "I can't get over how much I love them. I want to cry. Thank you, thank you, thank you."

Honestly, this session was so effortless and fun! I can't wait to do many more over Summer!
